FBI data for the Vancouver Police Department shows 2,369 vehicle thefts in 2023, 1,186 in 2024 and 736 in 2025, a fall of about 69%. The state's annual Crime in Washington report, compiled by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, shows the same 38% drop for the city from 2024 to 2025.

What sets Vancouver apart is the state line. During a January 2024 stolen vehicle operation run by Vancouver police and the Clark County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle officers spotted fled into Portland, where Portland officers stopped it. Two months later a stolen Mercedes tried to escape south across the Glenn Jackson Bridge before Portland officers disabled it, while other vehicles fled Portland officers north into Vancouver. In June 2026 a stolen motorcycle led police on a chase across Oregon and Washington at more than 100 mph before the rider got off at a Home Depot in Vancouver.

Pursuits and joint operations begin once a car is already gone, and here that can mean another state. Titan works before that: when it's armed, the vehicle won't start or move, so there's nothing to chase into Oregon.

FAQ

Vehicle theft in Vancouver: your questions.

Is car theft going down in Vancouver, WA?

Yes. FBI data for the Vancouver Police Department shows 2,369 vehicle thefts in 2023, 1,186 in 2024 and 736 in 2025, a fall of about 69% in two years.

How do I report a stolen car in Vancouver?

Call 911 in an emergency. VPD doesn't offer online reporting, so for lower-priority crimes call 3-1-1 (360-693-3111 from outside the area) or VPD's telephone reporting line at 360-487-7500, weekdays 8 to 5. VPD asks you to check that the theft happened inside Vancouver city limits.

Why do Vancouver car theft cases involve Portland?

The two cities face each other across the Columbia River, and stolen cars move both ways. Vancouver and Portland officers run stolen vehicle operations at the same time, and in 2024 vehicles fled from one city into the other during those operations.

Can Titan stop a car being driven into Oregon?

Yes, by stopping it being driven anywhere. When Titan is armed, the vehicle won't start or move, and you get the tamper alert while it's still where you parked it.
