Trades, Aged Units and Removals: Protection That Moves With Your Inventory

The SEMA Show wraps up in Las Vegas today, and the show cars head home. On your lot, vehicles have been moving all week too: trade-ins working through recon, a unit going out in a dealer trade, and an aged unit on the back row that your used-car manager wants gone by month end.

Inventory doesn't sit still, and theft protection has to keep up with it. If every trade, removal or flat battery turns into a service-lane job, protection becomes one more thing slowing the turn.

This post follows a unit through the moves that make protection hard to manage, and shows how Titan handles each one without putting your technicians on it.

The short version: Titan fitment engineers handle integration, maintenance, battery management and dealer trade removals on-site, units can be removed for dealer trades or aged inventory as needed, and the dashboard shows days in inventory and battery reports, so protection moves with your inventory while your techs stay on service revenue.

1. Arrival: Protected Before It's Front-Line Ready

The exposure starts at arrival. A trade-in can spend days in recon before it's ready to sell, and it's inventory the whole time. The platform is designed for lot-wide deployment, with schedules, geofencing and visibility suited to dealership operations, not a one-off consumer device model.

Agree on the queue. Titan's engineer becomes an operational asset at your store, and integration takes about 45 minutes per vehicle. Agree with your Titan team how new arrivals join the integration schedule, so a unit isn't sitting unprotected through recon.

Any make on the lot. If it has a motor, Titan protects it: domestic, import, luxury and exotic, with no platform limitations. A trade-in doesn't have to match the brand on your sign.

2. Dealer Trades: Removals Without the Service Lane

Trades move fast. A dealer trade can go from phone call to transport in a day or two. Titan-employed fitment engineers handle dealer trade removals on-site, so your techs aren't pulled off a repair order to get a unit ready to leave.

Put removal on the trade checklist. When a trade is agreed, add the Titan removal to the list that already covers keys, paperwork and transport, and tell your Titan engineer when the unit needs to go. Until it leaves, it's still your inventory and still on the overnight schedule.

Watch it while it waits for the truck. A unit waiting for transport often ends up parked at the edge of the lot, close to the road. It stays on the live map with everything else, and lot geofences and movement alerts cover it until it goes. If it leaves before the paperwork says it should, someone hears about it.

3. Aged Units: Watch the Days and the Batteries

Age shows up on the dashboard. The Partner Service Dashboard shows inventory status, days in inventory and sales tracking for dealers, and lot health in Halo includes inventory age. That's the list your used-car manager already works from, with the security status alongside it.

Batteries are the quiet problem. Units that sit drain batteries. Titan reports vehicle, device and remote battery levels, with low-battery alerts before a no-start, and dealers get low-battery alerts before delivery day. Battery management is part of what Titan's engineers handle, so a back-row unit doesn't surprise you when a buyer finally wants it.

Removal when it's time. Units can be removed for aged inventory as needed. When an aged unit is heading out, its removal goes on the same checklist as a trade.

Add security to the aging review. Most stores already review aged units every week. Add two questions to that meeting: which units show a battery alert, and which aren't in a group on the overnight schedule. Halo shows groups and overnight schedules, so the second answer doesn't need a walk of the back row.

4. While It Waits: Still Armed, Still Watched

Aged doesn't mean unprotected. Back-row units get the least attention, which is why they belong on the overnight schedule like everything else, armed every night whether anyone plans to show them or not.

Movement on a quiet unit is a signal. Lot health shows what's on lot, off lot and moved today. A unit nobody has touched in weeks that suddenly shows as moved today is worth a question before close.

Keys drift too. Keys for slow-moving units tend to wander: a spare in a desk drawer, a fob left on a hook by the door. Count them with the rest. When it's armed, a Titan vehicle won't drive away even with a working key, and a relayed signal or cloned key doesn't move it either.

5. One Device, and It Stays When It Sells

Fewer devices as inventory turns. Many stores already run GPS trackers on inventory, which means a second device to fit, check and pull on every unit. Titan has GPS and LTE at its core, so you get live location and trips for everything it protects, and when it's armed the vehicle won't drive away. If you're already paying for trackers, Titan's own location may mean you don't need them. Our comparison of Titan and GPS trackers sets it out side by side.

When it sells, it stays. Titan stays integrated in the sold vehicle and the new owner gets the Titan Secure app. That's the one exit where nobody needs to pull anything.

Protection That Keeps Up

The real test of inventory protection isn't a quiet week. It's the week the lot changes most, with trades out, arrivals in, aged units moving and deliveries stacking up. A simple checklist covers it: every arrival in the integration queue, every trade with a removal date, every aged unit with a battery check, and every sold unit handed over with its app.

With Titan, the people doing that work are Titan's fitment engineers, not your service department. We integrate, we maintain and we manage.
