Dallas thefts are down 40%.
Thieves now bring programmers.

Dallas has cut vehicle theft sharply since 2023, and 2026 is lower again. Many of the thefts that remain are organized, from key programmers at DFW Airport to cargo rings across the metroplex.

FBI data for the Dallas Police Department shows 11,162 vehicle thefts in 2025, down from 14,555 in 2024 and 18,457 in 2023. The decline has carried into 2026: DPD's preliminary count was 6,329 through September 28, 25% below the same point last year.

DPD credits faster report intake and more cameras, including 200 state-funded Flock plate readers. Some of what remains is organized. A Houston-based ring used Autel devices to reprogram fobs and took about 52 cars from DFW Airport, and the City of Dallas auto theft taskforce traced about $1 million in stolen cargo to a repair garage.

A car that leaves on a reprogrammed fob may come back with a new VIN, or not at all. Titan doesn't rely on the key: when it's armed, the vehicle won't start or move, and you get the tamper alert while there's still time to act.

FAQ

Vehicle theft in Dallas: your questions.

Is car theft going down in Dallas?

Yes. FBI data for the Dallas Police Department shows 18,457 vehicle thefts in 2023, 14,555 in 2024 and 11,162 in 2025. DPD's preliminary 2026 count was down 25% through September 28, and NICB data shows the DFW metro down 30% in the first half of 2026.

Where are cars stolen most in Dallas?

Dallas police say the top hot spot has shifted from the NorthPark Center area to Bishop Arts. In Central Division, auto thefts fell from 1,234 to 889 through September 28, 2026, compared with the same period a year earlier.

How do I report a stolen car in Dallas?

Call 911. Under a system DPD introduced to speed up stolen-vehicle reports, an officer then calls the victim back by video chat to take the report. DPD's online system takes some other incident types, but if you know who the suspect is, call instead.

How are thieves stealing keyless cars in Dallas?

Often with key programmers. The ring that took about 52 cars from DFW Airport used Autel devices to reprogram fobs, and Texas taskforces report growing use of programming devices on high-end vehicles and trucks. A device that stops the vehicle starting doesn't depend on who holds a key.
