Las Cruces police counted 297 stolen vehicles in 2019, a peak of 939 in 2022, then 815 in 2023, 793 in 2024 and 760 in 2025. Through August 2026 the count was 339, down 37%. FBI data for the department shows 835, 810 and 671 for 2023 to 2025, but that series shows only two thefts in May 2025, which looks like a reporting gap.
LCPD has used Flock license plate readers since 2021, and in 2024 they logged 749 stolen-vehicle hits and 720 stolen-plate hits. Theft here also comes in batches: in January 2024 thieves broke into Base Auto Sales, took the keys and drove off with 11 vehicles.
A plate reader helps after the car is gone. Titan stops it going: when it's armed, the vehicle won't start or move, and the owner is alerted on tamper.
